NEWSLETTER September MMVII UNITED
METHODIST MEN
“Men are called to model the servant leadership of Jesus Christ” The men of Parker UMC met on Sunday, August 5th. Topics of discussion were
Renovation and expansion of the church parking lot will be discussed
with the trustees and, when approved, the work will be contracted sometime
this spring. We are still waiting for one more contract bid to be submitted
before a decision is made by the trustees on the appointed contractor. It
was recommended that trustee members meet with the contractors on-site to
walk and discuss the work needed.
Parents, congregation members, and friends of the church are reminded
that children are not to play on the playground equipment without adult
supervision. This is to ensure their safety. Members are also asked to
report any problems or repairs that are needed to the playground equipment. UMM members cleaned the exterior walls of the church
fellowship hall on Saturday, August 11th. Next the upper walls will be
cleaned at a later date. Volunteer help is always welcome. Other projects pending are sanding and painting of
the metal railings in front of the church. Also, a pull handle will be
installed on the inside of the fellowship door. These will be handled by the
UMM. We
ask your help in keeping up to date on events in the church and community.
Submissions can be photos, poems, or articles of interest.

United
Methodist Women – News and Notes The ladies of Parker UMC met on Sunday August 19, 2007 to discuss business. The Parent’s Day Out project appears to be at a stand still due to lack of participation. It was decided to change this from a monthly service to a quarterly service with the next Parent’s day out planned for Saturday October 27th from 10 until 2pm. The first Jared’s boxes have been
filled and will be delivered shortly to Mark your calendars – the annual Shoe box ministry project is creeping up on us. Boxes will be due in by the end of October. We will be putting out a list of items to fill your boxes with – just remember NO war toys (this includes GI Joes and military vehicles as well as guns) and NO liquids. Watch and listen for further information. The women’s group will be holding a combination yard sale/ craft sale/bake sale fundraiser on Saturday 29 September 2007 from 7 am to 12 noon. We will be accepting donations of items to be sold and some of the ladies will be working on hand crafted items that can be sold at the crafts table. Also on sale will be breakfast plates for the shoppers. Donations of all kinds and some helping hands are needed to make this a success. Also in the works is a raffle fundraiser to benefit the Scholarship Fund. Look for more information on this in the future. Homecoming is Sunday September 23rd. The ladies will be decorating the church and gathering area using a fall theme. We will also be coordinating the traditional potluck luncheon. In the airlock you will find a sign up sheet for the luncheon. Please be sure to note what your family will be bringing so that we can insure there are plenty of main dishes, and sides as well as wonderful deserts for everyone. Please note that plates, napkins, cups, utensils, ice, drinks and rolls will be provided by the church so these items are not needed. Continue to pray for all of our deployed soldiers and their families. We continue to send notes and packages to the soldiers and will add any to our list if you have a loved one serving out of country. Our next monthly meeting will be held on Sunday September 16, 2007 at 3pm. We promise to have plenty of warm fellowship to share. Kathy Smith President, Parker United Methodist Women He
will be sought; God is good, therefore He will be found."
PASTOR’S
COMMENTS
Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior. My comments
are focused on three areas: 1.
The Shepherd’s Program, 2.
Homecoming, and 3. Fall revival. Our
Shepherd’s Program is organized and the membership of the church is
divided into seven Shepherds who will serve to bring about a greater
cohesion between the pastor, and the congregation. The Shepherd’s function
is to work as a linking person to provide greater communication flow within
the body of the church. In order
for the Shepherds to be able to pass on information there must be a two-way
communication, communication from the Shepherds to the members on their list
and communication from the members to the Shepherds.
It is very important that we share information when we know a member
is sick, hospitalized, needs spiritual counseling or a visit by the pastor
or shepherd, etc. It takes
teamwork for us to
improve our Shepherd’s program. I encourage you
to stay connected with each other so when the time comes we will be
able to pass on information to help someone in need. Homecoming
is approaching, in fact, it starts September 23, 2007 at 11:00 a.m.
Homecoming is a special time for family who live at home and for
those who have moved away from home to come together in Christian
fellowship. It is a time to give
thanks to God
for the enormous blessings He has given to us.
We expect to have a great time in fellowship with the Lord
and with each other. We are asking each family to bring Potluck food. We
will have our Homecoming Fellowship
meal following our worship service. Our Homecoming
guest preacher is Rev. Carol W. Goehring, our Fayetteville District
Superintendent. She is a gifted
preacher and leader, so don’t miss this great opportunity to hear her
bless us with the Word of God.
Our revival is scheduled for September 23-26, 2007.
We will start each night at 7;00 p.m. Our Revival
preacher is Chaplain Neil E. Smith who serves, as
the Chaplain for McCain Correctional Hospital.
If you
want to be encouraged and increase your faith come and hear Chaplain Smith.
He is a dynamic preacher and servant of God. If
you haven’t worshipped with us lately, I encourage you
to come this Sunday. Your
Pastor, Richard Meeting Minutes
