UNITED METHODIST YOUTH FELLOWSHIP

February was a busy month for the Youth Fellowship, they worked two separate fundraisers.

On February the 3rd during Superbowl Sunday, they collected money

for Second Harvest Food Bank with a Soup-R-Bowl and on the 14th a Sweetheart Dinner fundraiser was held in which they

converted the Fellowship Hall into a cozy dining room and served as waiters.

The two events raised almost $800.00 so thanks to all who supported our youth during for these events.

Parker United Methodist Women met on Sunday February 17th at 2:30pm.We are planning an Easter Egg Hunt for

Saturday March 22nd from 10:00am-12:00pm at the church.  We will have a flyer available to invite kids from the nearby neighborhoods and an advertisement will be placed in local newspaper.

We also discussed the mother-daughter luncheon/dinner. A tentative date has been set for Saturday May 3rd. additional details will be forthcoming.

Another topic discussed was the Jared Box Project which is a shoebox size plastic storage box filled with small gifts, toys, cards, and games.

Each box contains items selected for a specific age and gender. The boxes are delivered to hospitals ( Cape Fear Valley ) and are given to chronically ill children. The Jared

Boxes provide a special diversion for young patients as they receive chemotherapy and other medical treatments. The first shipment of 25 boxes was delivered in September 2007.

We have decided to prepare10 boxes from now on and the scheduled months are May, August and November.  Donations are acceptable and a list of suggested items will be available for those who would like to contribute.

The final item discussed was an update cleaning schedule for the church.  A sign up roster will be circulated among the congregation for additional volunteers.

Sheri read us a poem/story called PUSH---Pray Until Something Happens and Ms. Margaret led us in a closing prayer.

United Methodist Men

At the February meeting, it was decided to sod around the parking lot addition,
post the flagpole that was donated last month, and to get a work team together to help
Ms. Lois with the yard work in her new house. The flag pole was dedicated on
February 24th with a new flag donated by the Woodmen of the World and presented to Parker by Ronald D. (Dickie) Burchette.

FROM ASH WEDNESDAY TO EASTER

Lent started on Ash Wednesday February 6th and it is a 40 days period that leads from

Ash Wednesday and end on Easter march 23.  Lent is a time to remember the great sacrifice Christ made for us.  The heart of

Lent is centered on repentance, renewal, reconciliation, self-denial, suffering, and cross bearing.

Jesus approached Lent by fasting and praying.

I invite you to join me during this Lenten season to fast, pray, and study God’s Word.

Let us use the Lenten season as a starting point for us to achieve our goal this year.  We have identified two areas that we want to
improve in which are missions and evangelizing.  When we think of local missions we are referring to providing assistance to
those locally that needs help. When we think of evangelizing it is an area that requires us to become greater witnesses by reaching out and inviting
church members who do not attend on a regular basis to come back and become more actively involved.  Also, evangelizing requires us to reach out to the
unchurched and invite them to become a part of the community of faith.  To accomplish our goals, we certainly need God’s help and we need to
work together as a team.  I encourage you to continue to pray that God may help us this year as we work towards kingdom building in mission and evangelizing.

May God’s Grace, Peace and Mercy be with us!

YOUR PASTOR

RICHARD.
