MEN
“Men
are called to model the servant leadership of Jesus Christ”
The
men of Parker UMC met on Sunday, May 6th.
Topics of discussion were the playground construction, church parking
lot, and military pictures.
Construction
of the church playground continues and is near completion. Still needing
work is painting of the plywood and adding a roof on the main tower. The
youths will be asked to assist with the project on May 19th. Volunteer help is still needed
and always welcome.
Renovation
and expansion of the church parking lot will be discussed with the trustees
and, when approved, the work will be contracted sometime this spring. We are
still waiting for one more contract bid to be submitted before a decision is
made by the trustees on the appointed contractor.
Other
projects pending are sanding and painting of the metal railings in front of
the church. This will be handled by the UMM.
Don’t
forget to submit photos of service members who have served our country, past
or present. Turn photos into Steve, Monte, or Randy H. Please include a
brief synopsis of military duties, dates of service, awards, etc. Deadline
for submission has been extended to May 20th. Submissions can be photos, poems, or
articles of interest and can be E-mailed to
(there is a link on the newsletter page on the
website) or give your contribution to any of the UMM officers.
Installation
of a bell for the basement to alert church members at least five minutes
prior to service has been installed and is working satisfactorily.
We ask your
help in keeping up to date on events in the church and community.
Submissions can be photos, poems, or articles of interest.
To add items to the newsletter or website, E-mail
(there is a link on the newsletter page on the
website) or give your contribution to any of the UMM officers. Please submit
items before the 20th of
each month.

UNITED
METHODIST YOUTH FELLOWSHIP
In
May the fellowship continued to show that the youth are an important and
active part of the Parker UMC family. On
the 6th we went to Campground UMC for the Spring District Youth
Rally. The theme was “Jesus is our treasure” and we dressed as pirates,
met other teens from the district, had a mummy contest for the icebreakers,
listened to the praise band from Solid Rock UMC and heard an awesome sermon
by Rev. Lisa Yebuah. We
had CPR & 1st Aid training on the 12th for nursery
attendants. The 19th we
painted the towers of the playground. The next day our youth choir provided
the entertainment for the ceremony to award the Rachel Frizzelle Scholarship
(congratulations Ashley and Elizabeth) and
on the 26th we had a marathon baseball game for a fundraiser to
provide supplies for a mission project to feed the homeless.
In
June, we
will be going on
a field trip to Carrowinds amusement park on the 2nd when
there will be a Christian rock concert with Jars of Clay, Kutless, Newsboys,
and Family Force 5.
Long-term
plans in the works for the youth include VBS in June, fifth Sunday
activities in July and the Conference Pilgrimage at the Crown in November.
Thank
you for your support of the Parker UMYF. Our goal is to glorify God in all
that we do.
