AUGUST MMVII NEWSLETTER |
UNITED METHODIST MEN
“Men are called to model the servant leadership of Jesus Christ”
The
men of Parker UMC did not meet in July.
The next scheduled meeting will be August 5th at 8:20 AM.
Meeting Minutes
The Trustees met on July 18th with the following members
present: Rev. Jackson, Sheri, Butch, Randy H, Steve and Van. The
main order of business was the parking lot expansion. A contractor,
Cummings Landscape, has been selected and a proposal was made to extend
the lot eastward toward the cemetery to allow for an additional 20 spaces.
A motion was made and approved to contract for stump removal in this area.
The finance committee members present approved $650. for this purpose.
Further action agreed upon is that Sheri will contact 401 Sand and Gravel
for an estimate for fill dirt and Rev. Jackson will contact Duke Endowment
to see if they can help us if the project goes over our budget. Other
business discussed was the need for cleaning the exterior walls which will
be addressed at the next UMM meeting, exploring ways to make the
playground safer for pre-schoolers, and inventorying the contents of the
church for insurance purposes which Sheri & Kathy will present to the
women’s group.
The Worship committee met right after the trustees. First on the
agenda was our guest speaker, Tina Reaves, the District Nurse who spoke on
the Congregational Healthcare Ministries. She left us with a health care
survey which Parker UMC members will be asked to complete to determine
congregational need for this program. The worship service was discussed in
some detail next Mike Treadway agreed to teach a class to new acolytes
emphasizing the need for reverence during the service. Rev. Jackson will
get with the Head Ushers, William and Priscilla to discuss the need for a
similar class for Ushers and Greeters. Scripture readers are to be
encouraged to use the pulpit Bible in order to be better seen and heard.
Wendy and Lib were recognized for their contributions to the Worship and
it was mentioned that the communion service has improved with the
organization attributable to the Holdorfs. It
was also noted that there are too many children and teens getting up and
moving around during the service. Parents are urged to teach their
children to respect the reverence of the service. Homecoming was the last
thing covered during this meeting. Rev. Jackson will draft a letter to be
sent to out of state members this month and a second letter to be
presented at the next worship committee meeting on August 29th.
Decorating the Fellowship Hall will be brought up with the women’s group
at their next monthly meeting. While the speakers for the Homecoming and
Revival service have committed, it was unsure if we will have musicians
and for which services. A point of order was made that all negotiations
with prospective guest musicians be presented and approved by the Music
Ministry Coordinator, Lib Hales. The meeting was concluded with the
following members present: Rev. Jackson, Gloria, Wendy, Dan, Sheri, Betty,
Randy W, and Shirley. Birthdays For July 3-Cheryl
